Detailed Class Descriptions

The all-in-one 6-class & 3-class group series options are comprehensive and cover: prep for a holistic, healthy & positive labor/birth, stages of labor and strategies for each, instinctive & natural pain management techniques, practical tips for partners toward optimal labor and parenting support, your rights & self-advocacy strategies for avoiding unnecessary interventions, postpartum wellness, feeding & newborn care. Expectant parents will not only learn to trust their intuition toward a healthy birth in class, but also will be well-equipped to make informed choices and to have appropriate expectations regarding the spectrum of possible scenarios in labor, birth, and into parenthood.

  • Both formats are a hybrid class, meaning that there’s not only the live, group class but also supplemental selections from the online course (recorded lessons) to provide the most robust prep for all birth scenarios & caring for baby. The class prepares expectant parents for natural, non-medicated birth, and also covers commonly used pain medications, interventions, complications, and cesarean birth. The postpartum wellness section will give you the lay of the land of the physical, emotional, mental, holistic aspects of this transformation into parenthood and will help you think strategically in terms of practical support and facilitating your healing & recovery.

  • The infant feeding section covers breastfeeding/bodyfeeding (hunger cues, initial feeding, technique, how to know baby’s getting enough milk) pumping, bottle feeding, & tips for partners.

  • The newborn care section covers newborn appearance/senses, protocols immediately after birth, picking up & soothing baby, sleep safety guidelines & healthy biological sleep principles, diapering, bathing, babywearing, burping, swaddling, bonding, reading baby’s cues, taking temperature & when to call doc, cord care, choosing a pediatrician, ways partners can bond with baby, and more.

Instructor Lisa incorporates some of the best aspects of popular methods (e.g. Bradley, Lamaze, Hypnobirthing) and integrates insights from her experience as a doula along with her training with Childbirth Education Association of Metro New York (CEA/MNY), Lamaze International, and Evidence Based Birth to provide best-current-evidence and effective coping strategies for expectant parents.

All classes combine oral instruction with powerpoint, video, demonstration and hands-on practice. A few key topics will be covered via online course selections you can do in your own time and discussed in class, for the most comprehensive education possible. A customized class PDF textbook is also included, Google Drive files and a YouTube video playlist.
